UPDATE: Lack of Sanitary Toilet Facility CHP

From 65% of households with sanitary toilet to 87%, with all of our initiatives, we could all say that the problem of sanitary toilet in Bag-ong Dalaguete is being solved. In partnership with the RHU and the government officials of barangay Bag-ong Dalaguete the problem of sanitation is being met face-on. It all started when the team assessed that there is 12% households that opt for open dumping, we decided to consider it as a community health problem. After presenting it to the community people, they too, considered the problem in sanitation as one of the priority problem.

After considering it as a problem in our community, we then immediately mobilized connections from RHU as well as the barangay officials to aid us in our goal of attaining 100% sanitary toilet barangay. We contacted the rural health unit and updated them with our problem. With their concern, they send out their sanitary inspector to give health teachings on the importance of having a sanitary toilet. This then was reinforced by us through health teaching, again after 1 week, as well as handing out pamphlets on the importance of having a sanitary toilet. In constructing the toilets, toilet bowls were handed out by the RHU for the people of Dalaguete. This is to aid them in their financial limitations on constructing an acceptable sanitary toilet.

Further the barangay council decided to provide some materials for the construction of the toilet, such as gravel and sand. With our fund-raising activities, we were able to gather enough money to provide for the pipes and other materials for their comfort rooms. The rest of the materials will be out of their pockets, this is to establish also their desire in having a sanitary toilet. In this exposure, we followed up the families who had no sanitary toilet and had 4 families not yet constructing their sanitary toilets. The problem verbalized by the interviewed member of the families were they usually don’t have the time to construct their toilet. However, promised to do so. Our future goals is to attain a 100% sanitary toilet and to work on the practices of the family for sanitation.
